Cell phone and Poker 07/16/08

I now own a cell phone.  I asked my sister if this made me cool but she has pointed out that my mom has a cell phone so it doesn’t really make you cool.  My phone is the LG ENV2.  I really like how it folds open to a qwerty keyboard and it’s easy to send e-mail and texts from it.  Awesome!.

I played poker yesterday.  Total take was $260.00.  I played 2-4 hold em all day because I was scared from the last trip where I went down in flames.  7-8 players were hitting the flop on each hand and I had … Continue Reading

Vacation 05/10 to 05/18

When I have had vacation in the past if we haven’t gone out of town we’ve wasted it.  Joanna hate spending my vacation time by having nothing better to do than go to the mall every day.  This year we had a family meeting and decided what to do every day so that we would feel like we had done something with my time off.

Sofia was in school and since we didn’t go out of town we didn’t pull her out this year.  She complains that the boys always get to do fun stuff while she has to go to … Continue Reading

04/06/2008 Slack

No I haven’t found slack yet.  I’ve been studying for my new licensing exam and working overtime.  I should have between the study time and the work hours about 28 hours of overtime this week.  Good for the wallet but I was so looking forward to not having any extra work or extra money.

I drove by the Elks Club today and it looks like the poker room is no longer there for some reason.  I wonder if they found a permanent place or if they shut down completely.  Now if I want to play Poker I either need to drive … Continue Reading

Poker 09/21/07 Back to the Elks Club

So I was mad at Joanna, she’s started a new bus driving job and I’ve been having to watch the kids in the morning.  It’s so frustrating because I can make more in a couple of days of overtime than she can make in a month.  I’m lucky to have the job that I do.

I needed to go into work to catch up on some stuff, but since I was left with the boys this morning I was too frustrated to go right in.  I went to a farmer’s market instead.  I bought some heirloom tomatoes and some potatoes.  I … Continue Reading

Poker 07/31/2007 The Elks Club

Yesterday the kids had a birthday party at the neighbor’s house.  We went to the party and the father of the birthday girl had played a tournament at the Elks club the previous night and won.

We decided to go together for the 9 PM tournament.  It’s a $40.00 tournament with a re-buy or add on for the first hour. 4000 tournament chips and 25-50 blinds to start so not too super tight of a structure.  We started with four players but ended up with 10.  I ended up going out 7th, I had been building a nice stack until I … Continue Reading

The Making of a Poker Player by Matt Matros

This book is hard to rank.  I gave it three stars on Amazon and then changed it to four stars after I finished the whole book.

I liked how he told hand stories and showed how he developed as a poker player over time.  A lot of the book felt like having a friend talk to you about poker.

I hated how he started from the raw basics every chapter and pretended like he was writing for someone who knew nothing about poker whatsoever.  Who did he think was going to buy this book?  I would recomend a once through if you’ve … Continue Reading

Foxwoods 04/22

This time at Foxwoods I had my iPod at least.  I was scheduled for overtime and got cut loose early, it was the first “real” day of spring and the drive was beautiful.  I got to Foxwoods at about 4 PM.  I wandered the atrium because I was looking for something to eat.  i decided on Pollo Loco and had the original pollo bowl.  Damn Trump and his Apprentice infomercial, I must have liked it though because I had the ultimate pollo bowl for dinner.

I’m having such a dry card run at Foxwoods.  If I were playing blackjack I’d be a … Continue Reading

The Book of Bluffs by Matt Lessinger

I’m trying to read 100 books this year.  Working 60-70 hours a week and this goal is not a compatible combination.  However in Summer things will slow down again and I can give it a real run.

I got this book from my Pokerstars poker points.  It was that or another T-shirt but since I already have two Pokerstars shirts I thought I’d try the book.

It wasn’t a bad read.  I liked how Mr. Lesinger encourages you to continue of looking for spots to bluff.  I do believe that over the long run bluffing can change your position from a losing … Continue Reading

Foxwoods

All I can say is wow.  I’d heard of the mythical poker room but I can’t believe it’s real.  I took a day off work (I was sick cough cough) and went down to Connecticut.  I drove the wrong way, I went down the three until I got to the Mass Pike and went into Boston, almost all the way to the airport.  From there down past Foxborough, through Providence and then on to the casino.

It was so cool to drive through a quaint little New England town, through a forest and then on to a casino.  I’ve never seen … Continue Reading

On to Niagara, the Casino edition.

more fallsOriginally uploaded by wildpokerman.

The next morning I went on from London. I drove out towards Detroit again due to some bad advice from the guy at DR Horton’s. After righting myself I went on to Niagara. I was trying to decide between Niagara and Toronto, I was due for a recreation day after all that driving so I was going to stop at a casino. I didn’t want to spend a whole week … Continue Reading
